League

LBLTC League players and teams are selected by the subcommittee. The subcommittee is comprised of the Director of Tennis, the Men’s Captain and the Ladies Captain.
Any queries about team selection for any league or events are directed to the main email address for the club (tennis@lbltc.ie). Any further information required regarding selection will not be considered if it is communicated via Whatsapp or in person.

Team Selection Process

Preparation

  •  A league notice and enrolment sheet will be on display on the notice board in the clubhouse in the upcoming weeks of a league event.
  • An email and a message to Whatsapp groups will be circulated notifying members that an enrolment sheet has been published.
  • Players may enter as a full league player or as a substitute.
  • Players may enter with a partner or partner required. Pairings are not exclusive however expressed pairing preferences will be considered.
  • Players will be asked to provide a best estimate of their availability for the upcoming league campaign. It would be preferable, where possible, that players are available for at least 3 of the 5 matches in any one event.
  • The amount of teams entered for league will be dependent on numbers entered and teams will be selected on players’ availability.


Team Selection

Any player who wishes to enrol for league, must be registered on the Club Ladder. The Sub Committee will meet to consider all players on the merit of the following:

  • Club Championships
  • Matchplays
  • External opens / events
  • Ladder fixtures
  • League history, performance and attendance
  • Assessment of The Director of Tennis

Pairings for doubles will be selected based on player performance and ability and may be subject to change.

The placement of a player(s) on a team may differ to previous playing positions and this is dependent on the numbers entered and on the ability of players entered.


Captain’s Role

  • Captains will be appointed by the Sub Committee. Any player up for team selection is eligible for the role as Captain.
  • Once Captains are appointed, they will be added to a Whatsapp group.
  • Captains collect the league fee from teammates, make contact with their team for team practice, organising tennis balls, refreshments for home matches and transport for away matches.
  • Captains are responsible for filling out the results sheets, posting them to their Whatsapp group and sending them to the Club Secretary.
  • Captains are responsible for acquiring a sub from their sub list.
  • The Captain must liaise with the Ladies / Men’s Captain if a sub cannot be found from the issued subs list.

Substitutes

  • The sub list will consist of players who have enrolled on the league signup sheet for the current campaign.
  • The full subs list issued to Captains will consist of all eligible players who are registered to the same class on the DLTC system.
  • Pre-arranged subs based on indicated absences by players can be selected by the Captain and his/her team.
  • Registered players will be added to the same class Whatsapp group.
  • Captains from other teams are not eligible to contact a sub whom is not on their list. If a sub cannot be found from the issued subs list of the same class, the Captain must notify the Ladies / Men’s Captain.
  • If a player is required from another team of a different class, the Captain of that committee will notify the Sub Committee. The Sub Committee will make that decision and this will be final. However, this should be a last resort
